ACRA, Inc. offers safe, affordable housing for singles and small families that have HIV/AIDS. The head of household or spouse must be affected and at least 18 years of age. Our housing is drug free. If substance abuse is an issue we require that you should be involved in a treatment program and have at least six months of consistent clean time. Fitts-Powell and Buchanan’s rent is based on your income. For Blevins house one must receiving disability to be eligible for housing. Candidates are certified for housing by verification of their income, disability, criminal and credit checks. Eligible applicants will be placed on the waiting list where the average wait is six months to one year. It is imperative that you keep your contact information current.

Blevins House, an adult day care home, with 24/7 care administered by certified nursing assistants that provide medication assistance and help with daily needs opened its doors in 1989. Residents’ receive well balanced meals and transportation for medical appointments is coordinated. There are six beds available. We make every effort to provide social activities and annual retreats for the clients.

Fitts-Powell Apartments opened in 1993 and is a HUD 811 property. There are ten one bedroom and four two bedroom apartments which are handicapped accessible. The apartments are totally electric and Duke Power is the residents’ responsibility. All units have washers and dyers. There is always a waiting list for Fitts-Powell but we encourage you to apply because situations are constantly changing.

Buchanan Place is our first scattered site housing and became available in December 2000. There are four two bedroom apartments suitable for room mates or small families. Buchanan is centrally located with easy access to medical facilities, shopping and restaurants which is ideal for the independent individual. The heating is natural gas and washers and dryers are also provided. Eligible applicants must have an income.

ACRA, Inc. was awarded a HUD 811 grant to build a new family care home that will replace the current Blevins House. Each resident will have private newly furnished rooms in a smoke free environment. Blevins II will be located in south Durham with access to public transportation and is near shopping and walking trails.
